External Rendering for House Fronts, Extensions & Outbuildings

Weatherproof render that protects your property and transforms how it looks. Smooth, textured, pebble dash, or lime render — David covers all external rendering across South London.

Render Finishes

Types of external render

Three main options to suit your property type and finish preference. David will advise on the best choice for your job.

Lime Render

Breathable external lime render for older properties. The correct choice for pre-1919 buildings where cement render would trap moisture.

Sand and Cement

Ranging from smooth to pebble dash and textured finishes. Hardwearing and practical — the standard choice for most external rendering work.

Silicone Render

Low maintenance, waterproof and flexible. A crisp, modern finish that resists cracking and dirt — suitable for most external substrates.

What affects the price

External rendering costs depend on the surface area, the existing substrate condition, the number of coats, and the finish type. A house front in poor condition needs more preparation than a new extension on a clean block substrate.

Scaffold or access equipment is sometimes required for first-floor work — David will factor this into the quote. For larger jobs, a day's scaffold may be the safest and most efficient option.

Render needs dry conditions to apply well — David won't push ahead in rain or frost. He'll plan around the weather to get the best result.

Good to Know

Common questions

Can you match existing render?

Usually yes, though a perfect match depends on the age and condition of the existing render. David will assess and advise before quoting.

Do I need planning permission?

For most houses, external render changes are permitted development. Listed buildings and conservation areas are different — David will flag if your property has restrictions.

How long does external render last?

A well-applied sand and cement render should last 20–30 years with occasional repainting. Monocouche systems are low maintenance over similar timescales.
